ZIMBABWE holds immense potential for growth and Pakistan is keen to be a partner on its journey towards economic prosperity, outgoing Pakistani Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Murad Baseer has said.
Speaking while paying a farewell courtesy call on Acting President Dr Constantino Chiwenga at his Munhumutapa offices in Harare yesterday, Ambassador Baseer highlighted the growing bilateral cooperation between Zimbabwe and Pakistan, noting several key developments that have strengthened ties between the two nations.
Chief among them, he said, was the establishment of Zimbabwe’s embassy in Islamabad in 2023, a milestone that signalled deepening diplomatic and economic engagement.
“Last year, around 18 companies from Pakistan participated in the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show,” Ambassador Basser said.

“Similarly, in June, we welcomed a delegation of about 10 Zimbabwean companies to Pakistan.
“In the next few years, you will see a significant influx of Pakistani businesses investing in Zimbabwe, especially in manufacturing and other key sectors.
“I am very content that I made my best efforts in this amazing country, which has so much potential. I look forward to seeing Zimbabwe grow and achieve its prosperity and targets.”
During their meeting, the two discussed historical and strategic aspects of the bilateral relationship, including Pakistan’s support during Zimbabwe’s war of liberation.
The meeting also explored a range of bilateral cooperation areas, including educational scholarships, memorandums of understanding signed in the defence sector, and Pakistan’s backing for Zimbabwe’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term.
“He (Acting President Chiwenga) made a special mention of enhancing our bilateral trade figures,” said Ambassador Baseer.
“It was an honour to meet the Honourable Acting President Dr Chiwenga. We discussed the whole gamut of our bilateral relations starting from the war for independence of Zimbabwe and Pakistan military support of that time.
“Overall the Acting President was satisfied, I have completed my tenure and a lot has been satisfied.”
