eliminated the Pangolins from the main business of the event.
Since the 2009 qualifiers, the Pangolins have become a far better side than bitter rivals Zambia but they have not made any significant progress in terms of bridging the gap between them and the other top teams.
However, former Gils High coach and Harare Sports Club women’s rugby player Charmaine Chitate feels there are a lot of things that need attention if women’s rugby is to get more competitive.
“Personally I think that if there is going to be a way forward in terms of progress for women’s rugby in Zimbabwe, we seriously need to take ownership of situations before we can make a change.
“We need to stop making excuses for women’s rugby because at the end we will relax with the thought that everyone will understand because we are women.
“When you are wrong, there is need strive to work towards a right answer.
“If we are working towards 2016 (Olympics) the school girls need to play where the ladies are playing right now.
“They are all dropping the sport as soon as they leave school.
“We do not have continuity in women’s rugby and we definitely need that but I believe that change has to be gradual not instant,” said Chitate.
Women’s rugby is run by women and the only notable man in the structures is assistant coach George “Rollo” Mukorera who was roped into the structures after the unceremonious dismissal of Nsikelelo “Sykes” Sibanda.
