KWAITO rapper, Mawiza, is riding high on the success of his recently released EP titled Pantsula Graduate that contains the Entumbane koGogo track that has become a hit.

Other tracks that are playing popular include Johannes Ngodzo, Sdingi Imali Etown and Good Feeling featuring Tebza.

Entumbane koGogo stands out as the artiste proudly sings about the neighbourhood that raised him from the 90s when he was born. While paying homage to his grandmother, the artiste takes people on his life journey. This explains the song’s popularity as it is relatable.

To complete the project, the song’s visuals were released last week with many people showering praises on Mawiza for putting Entumbane and the city in general in the spotlight.

Showing how popular the song is, it has taken the number one spot on the Skyz Metro FM Top 20 chart show for several weeks. It has also been receiving airplay on national radio stations like ZiFM Stereo and Power FM.

In an interview yesterday, Mawiza said the EP’s title, Pantsula Graduate, is testimony of how he has for the past years, played a part in uplifting Kwaito music in the country. He said the EP’s main thrust is to show that he is now among Bulawayo’s finest artistes.

“By calling myself a Pantsula Graduate, I’m simply saying I’m now a Kwaito veteran and that’s indisputable,” said the confident Mawiza who is a Finance graduate.

The trending Entumbane koGogo, Mawiza said had its visuals shot by Marcus Khumalo in Entumbane. Shot at locations that include Eskwakweni, KoNhliziyo, Mthombo WeSizwe Primary School and Entumbane High School, the video has a nostalgic feel as it features common faces from Entumbane.

He said the song was aimed at paying homage to his family members.

“The record was inspired by my grandmother and my hood. I was raised in my grandmother’s house and she sadly passed on when I was very young. But, growing up in her house made it feel like she was around all the time.I also mentioned my mum and young brother uPopo who played a vital role in my upbringing,” said Mawiza.

The artiste who was under the late Cal Vin’s Kontrol Tribe said he hopes that the EP in which he claims his legend status, will help him clinch more awards and grow his brand. – @mthabisi_mthire
