THE kick off of the Harare Paramount Garments Under-20 Rugby League has been postponed with the new date tentatively set for January 31.
Originally pencilled in for January 24, all clubs and key stakeholders have since been notified on the changes with key logistical delays given as the reasons behind the week delay.
“Further to engagements with Paramount Garments, we wish to formally advise that the commencement date for the Under-20 rugby season has been revised from January 24 to January 31, 2026,” read part of a letter addressed to all the club chairpersons
“This adjustment arises from Paramount Garments’ internal cashflow sequencing, and their stated position that they prefer the season to commence with all service providers fully current and without any outstanding liabilities.
“Paramount Garments has reiterated its commitment to settling service provider invoices as they fall due, once internal commitments have been met, and has emphasised the importance of avoiding any carry-over arrears into the season.
“Accordingly, the revised start date of 31 January 2026 is intended to ensure a smoother operational rollout of the season, with all stakeholders aligned and service providers adequately covered from inception’’.
Harare Rugby Province chairperson, Lindiwe Munerenyu, has since come out to clarify on the postponement.
“The decision to adjust the start date was taken after careful consultation with our rugby governing body,” she said.
“It was also necessary to finalise key logistical and administrative requirements and to ensure all participating clubs were adequately prepared.
“The intention was to prioritise quality delivery over speed.
“The confirmed start date is now January 31.
“When the league resumes, stakeholders can expect improved coordination, clearer operational systems, and a more streamlined competition environment,” said Munerenyu.
She added; “The brief postponement should be viewed as a sign of sound governance and forward planning.
“The Under-20 league remains a cornerstone of player development, and all partners remain fully committed to delivering a competitive and credible.

“Interest in joining the Under-20 league has continued to grow and the new additions will be formally announced once they have met the participation criteria,” said Munerenyu.
“The teams we are looking forward to are SDR 24, Rockstars from Mutare and a Chinhoyi team,” she said.
