BULAWAYO-based Falakhe Funeral Parlour has dragged its financial director to court for allegedly stealing R7,450. Ngqabutho Ncube, 38, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube yesterday charged with theft.
The parlour’s managing director, Pilate Mabhena reported Ncube to the police accusing him of coercing the company’s cashier into handing over the money to him.
Ncube denies the charge.
Prosecuting, Kenneth Shava told the court that Ncube ordered the cashier to give him the money and left without saying a word.
“On July 7 at about 9AM at Falakhe Funeral Parlour, Thembelani Dube, who is employed as a cashier and is in charge of all the money and safe keys, opened a safe containing the R7,450 so as to collect a bank statement,” said Shava. “Ncube walked into the room and ordered him to give him the money so that he could count it. He then took R7,450 and left without saying anything.”
Shava said Dube then reported the incident to Mabhena who made a report to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest.
It is understood Ncube owns 30 percent shares of the company, which he reportedly inherited from his late father who was a founder member.
Mabhena is said to be the major shareholder owning 70 percent shares.
The two partners are understood to have made an agreement that Ncube does not directly involve himself with company funds.
Magistrate Dube remanded Ncube out of custody to July 16.
