A FUNDRAISING event that was organised by Plumtree-based entertainment company, Toundtainment, has yielded positive results as they managed to raise and donate items worth about $600 to the Plumtree District Hospital maternity and children’s ward.
The company held a birthday bash for renowned Plumtree-based DJ Yugoe in Johannesburg on May 5 and in Plumtree on June 9 under the theme “Party for a cause”.
Items that were donated comprised blankets and wrappers. Event organiser Handsome Sibanda said they also donated some items which were contributed by well-wishers from Plumtree which comprised a wheel chair, door handles, taps and shower heads.
Sibanda said they were pleased the events had been held successfully. He said the event will be held annually on a larger scale.
“We held two events one in Johannesburg and the other in Plumtree where we held a birthday bash for DJ Yugoe in a bid to raise funds for the Plumtree District Hospital maternity and children’s ward. We raised $600 and all proceeds were used to buy blankets and wrappers to be used in children’s and maternity ward. We also managed to source various donations from the local community which we also handed over to the hospital.
“Next year we plan to hold a bigger event so that we can raise more funds and thereby increase the donation. We will also engage more well-wishers in this initiative. As this initiative goes further we will have different beneficiaries. We will identify other areas that need assistance,” said Sibanda.
He said next year’s events will be held on May 5 in Johannesburg and on June 9 in Plumtree.
Sibanda said the initiative was a way of giving back to the community for supporting their events over the past years.
“We want to show that entertainment isn’t only about enjoying and having fun but it can also be a tool for development. We also want to nurture a culture of social responsibility among our artistes. The community has been assisting and showing us support during our events and this is a way of ploughing back,” he said. — @DubeMatutu
