A United Apostolic Church pastor was on Monday arraigned before the courts after he allegedly stole church property worth over $10 000. Davias Mburuma (60) appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Shelly Zvenyika charged with theft of trust property. Mburuma denied the charges and Ms Zvenyika remanded him out of custody on $100 bail.
Trial has been set for March 11.
Allegations are that sometime in February this year, Pastor Godfrey Mpofu was issued with an eviction order by the High Court to evict Mburuma from the church following a misunderstanding.
The court heard that Mburuma initially refused to leave the place, but later moved out on February 11.
It is the State case that when Mburuma vacated the premises he failed to hand over some church property which included music instruments and office furniture.
The court heard that Mburuma was seen by a church pastor, only identified as Ngoni, driving a truck loaded with church chairs.
Pastor Ngoni informed Pastor Mpofu and they reported the matter to the police.
The stolen goods were worth $10 475 and nothing was recovered.
Mr Vincent Chikerema prosecuted.
