VETARAN gospel musician, Pastor Charles Charamba, says the emergence of a talented and disciplined new generation of musicians has secured the genre’s legacy.
Having spent more than three decades shaping gospel music, Charamba believes the current crop of artists possesses the passion, maturity and dedication needed to take the ministry to greater heights.
According to Charamba, gospel music is here to stay because of the abundance of talent that continues to emerge across the country.
He said he is encouraged by the commitment shown by young musicians, many of whom are filling churches, halls and stadiums while spreading the Gospel through music.
Pastor Charamba and his wife, Olivia, widely regarded as Zimbabwe’s first family of gospel music, have continued to grace major gospel events as guest performers.
“I have a lot of faith in the new crop of artists performing here and at other functions,” said Pastor Charamba.
“I see a bright future for this genre because we have a new generation of artists who are doing exceptionally well.
“I am proud of the likes of Minister Michael Mahendere and many others who continue to raise the standard.
“This new generation has proved that gospel music will never die, and I am glad they are hardworking and committed.
“I will always be available whenever these young artists need my guidance or expertise.”
The Fishers of Men leader said it is important for gospel musicians to keep reinventing themselves while remaining faithful to their calling.
“I am delighted to see the new generation doing so well, and this shows that gospel music is in safe hands. I will continue playing my part by supporting and mentoring these talented young artists for the benefit of the entire gospel fraternity.”
Charamba also commended the corporate sector for increasingly supporting gospel music.
“To be honest, I am grateful for the support we are receiving from the corporate world.
“It shows they have confidence in gospel musicians and appreciate the positive impact our music has on society. We will not disappoint them but will continue working hard to make them proud.”
Artists such as Minister Michael Mahendere, Janet Manyowa, Takesure Zamar and Mathias Mhere have become household names, drawing thousands of worshippers to their events while producing music that resonates across generations.
For Charamba, the journey has evolved beyond recording hit songs.
Today, he is regarded as a mentor, preacher and role model whose contribution to gospel music continues to inspire both established and upcoming musicians.
His consistency, humility and unwavering commitment to ministry have earned him immense respect within and beyond the music industry.
