A 44YEAR-OLD Glen View pastor has been sentenced to an effective nine months in prison for indecently assaulting a 19-year-old congregant.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on December 8, 2025, at around 10.30am after the offender sought permission from the victim’s mother for her to assist him with cleaning at the church.
Upon arrival, the pastor hugged the complainant and began to inappropriately touch her. Despite her protests, he continued assaulting her and declared his affection for her.
“When he pushed her to feel his organ, the victim cried, begging the offender to stop,” read the statement
The assault was interrupted by a knock on the church door. The victim later reported the matter to her mother, leading to the offender’s arrest.
The man was convicted by the Mbare Magistrates’ Court and initially sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, with three months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
In Chegutu, a 33-YEAR-OLD man of no-fixed abode has been sentenced to an effective 10 months in prison for assaulting a passerby in Chegutu.
The NPAZ said the incident occurred on March 13, 2026, at around 3pm in Pfupajena suburb, when the victim was on her way to church.
The man suddenly attacked the woman and stabbed her on the shoulder and thigh before members of the public intervened and rescued her.
The man was convicted at the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to 13 months’ imprisonment, with three months suspended for five years.
In a statement, the NPAZ urged members of the public to shun violence and resolve disputes peacefully, warning against senseless acts that endanger lives.
