Pastor Mhindu pays US$74 000 restitution

Henrietta Rushwaya, of a house in Greendale was last week released from prison after paying US$74 000 restitution.
Harare regional magistrate Mr Morgan Nemadire gave Mhindu up to May 31 to pay the balance of US$1 000 while out of custody.
Mhindu was in February jailed two years for failing to pay restitution, but was on Friday set free after raising the US$74 000.
Ms Rushwaya, who was reportedly in Russia when the money was paid, is expected to collect her money from the clerk of court.
Mhindu was last year sentenced to four years in jail of which two were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
A further two years were suspended on condition that he restitutes Ms Rushwaya US$75 000.
He was supposed to pay restitution by January 31 this year, but he failed.
Through his lawyer Mr Joel Mambara, the pastor unsuccessfully made an application for bail pending appeal before regional magistrate Mr William Bhila.
Mr Bhila dismissed the application following strong opposition by principal law officer Mr Godwin Takawira Nyasha.
Mr Nyasha proved that sometime in October 2004, Mhindu sold a house at Number 51 Court Road in Greendale, built on 13 379 square metres, to Mr Norman Zimvu, but later sold the same house to Ms Rushwaya.
He misrepresented to Ms Rushwaya that he was still the owner of the property and sold it to her for Z$75 million, knowing he had already surrendered the title deeds of the said property to Mr Zimvu.
