A Harare pastor, Simbarashe Mparira, has been ordered to pay US$100 per month as maintenance for his two children.

His former partner, Talent Chigwanha, appeared before the Harare Civil Court and said Mparira has not been providing for his children.

She said she is struggling to provide for the children on her own.

“I have been providing for my two children all this while, but as they grow up their needs are becoming more expensive,” she said.

“I had no choice but to seek legal help due to Mparira’s prolonged absence and neglect.”

She said she only receives financial support from Mparira’s church.

However, Mparira opposed the application and told the court that he is unemployed.

“I am unemployed and my financial situation is bad. The church is still in its infancy and does not have enough resources,” he said.

Mparira offered to pay US$20 every month for both children but the magistrate ordered him to pay US$100.
