Zimbabwe born film, television and theatre producer with several documentaries, television programmes and short films to her name, Patience Tawengwa, has joined United Kingdom producers Dapo Oshiyemi and Jezz Vernon on the production of a comedy, drama-romance set in London.
Tawengwa would be one of the producers on the project, currently being filmed in London that is set to be released early next year.
“It’s the Blackness”, written by Dapo Oshiyemi tells a funny, compelling, intelligent, provocative character driven story about two brilliant young graduates of an elite university struggling to overcome institutional and structural racism barriers to build careers in modern Britain while balancing family and love.
The film will star Kalu Ikeagwu and Marcy Dolapo Oni who play the roles of Mr & Mrs Baba-Lola.
Tawengwa’s productions have toured South Africa, Zambia, Algeria, Scotland, Ireland, and Sweden and she has served on the adjudication board of Zimbabwe’s National Arts and Merits awards (2015 -2017).
She also worked as an independent producer for Scoop Network Africa, as well as the Pan-African entertainment news channel.
Tawengwa is an alumnus of the development programmes of the Berlinale talent campus, HIFA Direct, Hollywood in Focus and the CineFAM Co-Production Accelerator.
In her addition to her hands on experience, Tawengwa holds a masters degree in international film business from the University of Exeter and London Film School.
“Its the Blackness” has brought a number of exciting and experienced personnel to work on the production.
Hakeem Kae-Kazim one of the most recognisable stars, would be directing ‘It’s the Blackness’ under the banner of pioneering UK production and distribution Company Talking Drum Entertainment.
Kae Kazim have spent most of his career in front of the camera in films such as the Oscar-nominated “Hotel Rwanda”, “Pirates of the Caribbean – At World’s End”, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, “King Kong v Godzilla” to name a few.
