The Patriotic Vendors 4ED National Executive Committee has welcomed what it described as overwhelming public support for Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3).
Speaking to the media, the organisation’s national chairman, Cde Sawu Jere, congratulated Zimbabweans for backing the Bill, saying the outcome reflected the will of the people.
“I closely followed the proceedings and the smooth debates in Parliament this week. With the results released by Parliament after the second reading, I witnessed a thunderous outcome for CAB3. The people have spoken,” he said.
Cde Jere cited figures released during the parliamentary process, saying they demonstrated strong public backing for the proposed constitutional amendments.
“The figures speak for themselves, and anyone can verify them with Parliament: Written submissions in support: 537,102, people who supported CAB3 during public hearings: 67,302, emails in support: 1,472, written submissions against: 2,935, people opposed during public hearings: 386
Emails against: 760,” he said.
He said the results showed that the majority of Zimbabweans supported the proposed amendments.
“With numbers like these, the voice of the people is truly the voice of God. The Constitution should be amended without hindrance.
“Well done, Zimbabwe, for choosing peace over stagnation, and for choosing unity over elections that are costly and divisive. You have made a bold decision for a term extension, and we believe this will unlock great development up to 2030,” said Cde Jere.
He also congratulated President Mnangagwa, legislators and local authority representatives on what he termed a significant milestone.
“Congratulations to His Excellency President Emmerson D. Mnangagwa, Senators, Members of Parliament, Councillors, and the entire nation of Zimbabwe for this thunderous victory. CAB3 is now in action, and we look forward to the journey ahead until 2030,” he said.
Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3 has generated widespread debate across the country, with supporters arguing that it will enhance governance and policy continuity, while critics have raised concerns over some of its provisions.
The Bill continues to undergo the legislative processes required before becoming law.
