Pay up, court orders ex-hubby

Court Correspondent
A Harare man told the Civil Court last week he would not pay maintenance for the upkeep of his two children because his wife has remarried. Lovemore Kufa claimed Patience Hwemhere ditched him for another man, leaving two minor children whom she claimed from last week. Hwemhere was claiming $150 for the children.

Kufa told magistrate Ms Gamuchirai Siwardi that Hwemhere took the children so she could claim maintenance from him.

“I have been taking good care of the children single-handedly all along only for her to come last week and take the children when I was at work,” said Kufa.

Hwemhere claimed Kufa was an air time vendor who pockets $300 a month. Ms Siwardi ordered Kufa to contribute $130 towards the upkeep of the children.

“I want him to contribute $150 towards the upkeep of our two children,” she said.

Ms Siwardi ordered Kufa to contribute $130 towards the upkeep of the children.
