Bulawayo-based Kwaito and Amapiano artist is preparing to release a new single titled Lobengula, a project he says is a heartfelt tribute to the township that shaped him.
The Lobengula-born musician, whose real name is Perfect Nkayiso Mudumi, who goes by the stage name Peezet Samfana said the track is a fusion of Kwaito and Amapiano, popularly known in the kasi as isgubhu, crafted to paint a vivid picture of the township’s culture, hustle and unity.
“This song tells the story of my hometown, Lobengula. It reflects the kasi lifestyle, our culture, how we grew up in the streets and the people who make the place special,” said Peezet Samfana.
“The project is more than just music to me. It is about representing home and giving people a glimpse of where I was born and raised.”
The single features celebrated hip-hop pioneer , female vocalist , and was produced by , who is also originally from Lobengula and now based in the United States.
Peezet said working with Kruzekeyz brought authenticity to the sound.
“He fully understood the vision I had for this song because he also comes from Lobengula. He knew exactly the sound and energy I wanted.”
The project was recorded at producer ’s studio, with Stormza also handling the mixing and mastering.
Peezet credited Stormza for helping launch his professional recording journey.
“I started writing music in 2019, but I only recorded my first track in 2021 after meeting Stormza. I waited because I wanted quality music and a proper studio environment.”
Since officially entering the recording industry, the artist has performed at several notable events including Winter Shutdown 2023, Summer Carnivals and various showcases in Lupane, Mguza and Mbembesi.
He also introduced 4The Culture, a platform created to give emerging artistes a chance to showcase their talent.
Peezet said music has always been part of his life.
“What inspired me is my deep love for music. I live, breathe and speak music every day. I fell in love with telling my story through songs.”
Although he is yet to release a full body of work, the artiste revealed that fans can expect his debut EP later this year.
“I have unfinished projects and an album in progress, but this year I am promising my supporters my first EP.”
With Lobengula, Peezet Samfana is not just releasing another song, but offering a sonic postcard of one of
Bulawayo’s most vibrant townships, celebrating its people, identity and unmatched kasi spirit.
