Pensions clerk on US$24,000 theft charge

A CLERK employed by the Mining Industry Pensions Fund (MIPF) stole US$24,000 in pension contributions over nine months, a court heard.
Lovemore Nkomo, 41, of Cowdray Park in Bulawayo, would receive money from mining companies and convert it to his own use, a court heard.
The money had been collected from contributions by workers at Slice Through Mine and Esikhoveni Mine.

Nkomo, who should have banked the money into the MIPF bank account, would produce fake deposit slips to hide the fraud, Bulawayo Magistrate Gladmore Mushove was told on Wednesday.

An internal audit last year revealed that $24,410.77 was missing.
Nkomo was remanded to January 21 on $300 bail.
