FOUR men, including a 16-year-old boy, have been arrested in Beitbridge after staging a violent pepper spray robbery on a villager walking home from the shops in Mutetengwe Village.
Justin Mleya (21), Efficient Ndou (20), Rendani Ndou (20), and the minor, were picked up by police on 12 October 2025 following a swift investigation.
National Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests, saying the gang had ambushed their victim on 9 October 2025, attacked him with pepper spray, and robbed him of R800 and US$20.
“The suspects sprayed the complainant with pepper spray, attacked him, and took his money before fleeing the scene,” said Comm Nyathi.
Police later tracked down the quartet and recovered part of the loot. “One canister of pepper spray, two Okapi knives, a torch, and cash amounting to ZAR 150 were recovered during the arrests,” he said.
The gang is believed to have been terrorising villagers along the Mutetengwe and Beitbridge corridor, targeting pedestrians at night.
Police have warned would-be offenders that the law will catch up with anyone involved in violent crimes.
“Citizens are urged to be alert and report suspicious people or movements in their communities,” said Comm Nyathi.
The four suspects are expected to appear in court soon facing robbery charges.
