always chant his name in songs.
The diminutive Kadoma-based businessman and music fanatic is a philanthropist with a passion for music.
From the late Tongai Moyo, Suluman Chimbetu to Freddy “Kapfupi” Manjalima to Somandla Ndebele and First Farai, they have all at one time got assistance from Cossy, as he is affectionaterly known.
Although he runs Cossy Rules, a company with interests in mining and furniture, he says music is his first love.
“I have helped over 200 musicians in Zimbabwe. I think the only notable ones I have not assisted are Alick Macheso, Oliver Mtukudzi and Jah Prayzah.
“I do not mean to brag but it’s just that I have a soft spot for musicians and I am more than just happy to assist them,” said Cossy.
Only last week he grabbed headlines after splashing US$5 000 on Sulu during a live show as a way of appreciating local talent.
During Utakataka Express’ first show after the death of Tongai, Cossy donated US$2 000 on stage.
He said: “I wanted to be a musician myself but I guess God did not give me that talent. That is not my thing but I have made an effort to grace almost every music gig that happens in the country because I love music very much.”
He was the guest of honour when Leonard Zhakata’ launch his album “Gotwe” at Sports Diner in 2011 and he was at the launch of “Sekawo Mbichana” by rhumba exponent Energy Mutodi.
Other musicians who Cossy claims to have assisted include Nicholas Zakaria and Allan Chimbetu, to mention just a few.
“I have always been helping out musicians, I am not rich but from the little that I have I want to share it with musicians.
“It is just unfortunate that I live in Kadoma and when I help musicians and other people nobody notices,” he said.
Other musicians also work for his companies on a part-time basis.
Recently, Cossy and his staffers organised a clean-up campaign where they swept the city’s main street. He then proceeded with his entourage to Jairos Jiri Association Kadoma where he donated blankets and food- stuffs.
Cossy grew up in Kadoma’s Waverly surburb. After finishing his O-Levels, he ventured into mining and has since spread his wings in other areas that include transport and furniture. Last year, he sold his franchise in Division One football side Cossy Rules FC.
He, however, dreams of becoming a music analyst one day.
