Mashonaland East province is set to add a gospel touch to this year’s Chibuku Road to Fame finals through its representatives, Pilgrims of Christ.
The gospel group, formed 11 years ago, sees this performance as a major breakthrough in its journey. Eager to make an impact, the band views the upcoming competition as an opportunity to firmly establish its presence on the national music scene.
The Chibuku Road to Fame finals, aimed at discovering and promoting emerging musical talent, will be held at Glamis Arena in Harare this Saturday. Pilgrims of Christ will be competing against other provincial winners, including Charlotte and The Vibrant Band (Manicaland), Panhimbe Crew (Masvingo), Boom Jazz (Mashonaland West), Kweseka (Matabeleland North), Music 2 Music (Bulawayo), Fugees (Matabeleland South), The Outlaws (Harare Metropolitan), The Cousins (Midlands), and Shanty Town (Mashonaland).
Justice Mawere, a member of Pilgrims of Christ, shared the group’s journey, explaining how the band was originally formed in 2013 by Rumbidzai Mawere (née Saineti) with his support.
“Our mission has always been to share a positive message with the community through mature, trade gospel music,” said Mawere.
“This year’s victory at the provincial level has renewed our confidence and affirmed that we’re on the right path. In 2025, we plan to expand our platforms for sharing our beliefs, cultural values, and community messages through music.”
The group’s line-up includes Rumbidzai Mawere (lead singer), Justice Mawere (lead and backing vocals), Ruth Nyika (backing vocals), Talent Nyere (backing vocals), Emmanuel Chakabvapasi (drummer), Munashe Russel Tarwirei (bassist), Blessing Mudawisi (keyboardist), Kundai Mugano (keyboardist), Kudakwashe Mutembwa (saxophonist), and Kumbirai Munyire (backing vocals).
