CHEGUTU Pirates scored probably the fastest goal of the season, after just 37 seconds, but Herentals fought back to get a point in this Castle Lager Premiership match at Baobab yesterday.
Reginalt Ngazima struck early after the Students failed to clear.
However, the Students, who have been showing a good fighting spirit in their recent matches, fought back and found the equaliser in the first half.
They began to dictate the pace of the game, winning most of the midfield duels but kept failing to penetrate the hosts defence.
However, the relentless pressure from the visitors finally paid off in the 27th minute.
Herentals won a free kick, which was taken by club owner Innocent Benza, who found an unmarked Erick Dombo on the left flank.
He rolled the ball across goal and it struck the boot of Pirates defender, Reuben Machaya, who beat his goalkeeper Tafadzwa Jabangwe. There was no goal for either side in the second half. Pirates assistant coach, Godfrey Tamirepi, said his team played well and could have avoided the equaliser.
“We played very well in the first half and we were unlucky not to win this match,we lost concentration and gifted the visitors the goal.” said Tamirepi.
Herentals coach, Paul Benza, felt his team dropped two points.
“We’ve lost two points,” said Benza who appeared not happy with the performance of the referee.
