The album is being sold on the black market as one of Macheso’s latest hits and yet it belongs to Mutodi who is nicknamed Tatu Muluba (the big diamond baron) by his fans.
A copy of the sub-standard CD is going for US$3 and the others are selling for just a dollar, with the only rival in sales popularity being the sex tape of rapper Stunner and his porn star girlfriend Pokello Nare.
However, music pirates are taking advantage of the fact that Tatu Muluba featured Macheso or simply “Extrabasso” on the song “Angelina”.
Tatu Muluba becomes the second musician to collaborate with Extrabasso after the late diva Beater Mangethe.
“Angelina” is a love song that appears in two versions on the album. There is a rhumba and a sungura version where the two artistes blended well with Extrabasso lacing his syrup-like lyrics over a lingering bass guitar while Tatu Muluba waxes the track with some Lingala-inspired chants.
The magic is felt throughout the track as the two exchange verses and choruses without any glitches.
His first album titled “Simbi Yam’dhara” launched Tatu Muluba as a star in the making what with his versatility and flamboyance on and off the stage.
Those who attended the launch of his latest album got a real treat including a surprise performance by Australian-based R&B sensation Audius Mtawarira who wowed the audiences with a magical show.
The highlight of the night was when Tatu Muluba and Extrabasso took to the stage to perform their duet “Angelina”.
Dressed in designer cross belts and shiny silver-grey tuxedo Tatu Muluba displayed his elegance and style that he is known for.
Judging by the crowd’s response to the collaborative effort the song “Angelina” won the hearts of many in addition to topping the charts.
Other tracks on the album include “Ruvimbo”, “Two by Two”, “PaChibondo”, “Mbarikwa” and “Anesu” dedicated to late musicians Tongai Moyo, Leonard Dembo and Cephas Mashakada.
