JOHANNESBURG. – Pitso Mosimane’s name has been mentioned in the list of coaches in line to take over one of the coaching jobs in the Middle East.
Following a failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, Iraq’s national team coaching job has been left vacant and Mosimane’s name has been linked after his sacking at Al Ahly.
Mosimane left Al Ahly last month after 20 months in charge of the continent’s most successful club.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns gaffer has been named as a frontrunner along with Frenchman Bernard Casoni and Toni Conceicao of Portugal.
Considering the profile that he has built, Mosimane has been linked with a move to the Middle East where his earnings from his time at Al Ahly will either be matched or improved.
Iraq is presently ranked 70 in the world and played at the 2009 FIFA Confederation Cup held in South Africa when Mosimane was an assistant coach.
They had finished as the 2007 Asian champions and have only ever qualified for the World Cup once (1986).
Their most recent coaches have been Dick Advocaat, Zeljko Petrovic, and Abdul-Ghani Shahad. – KickOff
