Zimbabwean Muslims have been hailed for upholding the message of peace.
Chairperson of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Zimbabwe, in a New Year’s message, Sheikh Duwa, said Islam remained a religion of peace and tranquility, “spreading a canopy of mercy over the entire world”.
“As a community we are happy that we managed to maintain the peace which the prophet and our predecessors preached. The Muslims religion presented a civilised society before the world, one that raised the status of humanity and strengthened its ties with its spirituality,” Sheikh Duwa said.
“By spreading the message of quality and deliverance of rights, we were able to eradicate all the types of racial, territorial and other types of prejudices.
“Unfortunately the golden era of peace and tranquility remains as memories to other nations as they are experiencing constants fights and attacks on religious basis.”
He added: “The brilliant Islamic teachings of high moral conduct, fairness, compassion and mercy if adopted can once again bring contentment to our lives and allow us to spread happiness into the lives of others.
“Through their teachings and practices (Islamic leaders, sheikhs and imams) they were able to nurture the souls of their followers and present them before the world as ambassadors of peace, striving to strengthen such values as tolerance, dignity and respect for all human beings irrespective of colour, creed or divergence of religions.
“In today’s troubled society were humanity weeps and the impeccable moral conduct, the Quran and the teaching of the noble Prophet Muhammad remain vital.
“Human-created teachings are unable to fulfill our needs, yes they can feed our pockets but let us not forget paradise (Janat),” Sheikh Duwa said.
