Player willing to take a climb down

IN an unprecedented move, one football player is doing the unthinkable by asking his current club to release him from his contract so he can join a “smaller team” to get game time.

While some football players would rather move mountains to remain in the books of major clubs, Chicken Inn striker Adrian Banana reckons his career will move in a better direction if he leaves the club.

As such he has asked Chicken Inn to release him at the end of his contract that ended on 31 December.

Last season he was on loan to Bulawayo Chiefs in the Zifa Southern Region league.

Bulawayo Chiefs eventually won the ticket to play in the Castle Lager Premiership in the 2018 season.

“To be honest I’m proud of how I performed while playing for Bulawayo Chiefs in Division One in 2017 compared to how I have been playing at Chicken Inn in 2018,” said Banana.

Because he received close to no game time at Chicken Inn, Banana wants another dance with Bulawayo Chiefs in 2019.

“This was a bad year for me. I was affected by a lot of injuries throughout the season and I must also admit that there is stiff competition at Chicken Inn.

“If doors are still open for me at Bulawayo Chiefs, I’ll be happy to play for the club again. If not then any other club will be good enough,” he added.

Chicken Inn secretary-general Tavengwa Hara said the club would not stand in the way of the want-away player as long as he was not in head coach Joey Antipas’ plans for the upcoming season.

“Initially, we wanted to release the player to Bulawayo Chiefs during the second half of the 2018 season but we couldn’t agree on the terms of a swap deal for one of their players.

“If he (Banana) is not in our coach’s plans then we will release him to join a team of his choice so he can get more game time. He, however, has not made a request for a release from his contract,” said Hara.
