THE Bulawayo Table Tennis Association (BTTA) Open tournament was held at its traditional venue Drill Hall on Saturday, with players displaying some good performances.
The tournament attracted four provinces, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Bulawayo, with over 100 players participating.
Manicaland’s Trust Madoro was the toast of the tournament by coming tops in the boys’ Under-10, Under-12 and Under-15 categories.
Naama Boterere from Mashonaland East shrugged off stiff competition from Bulawayo’s Amanda Dlamini to win in the girls’ Under-10 category.
Kuzivakwashe Chidakwa of Mashonaland East was the best in the girls’ Under-12, while Bulawayo’s Luyanda Sibanda won the girls’ Under-15.
Sharon Nkomo of Bulawayo won the Under-18 girls’ category, while Mashonaland East’s Andy Fambira won in the boys’ Under-18.
BTTA chairperson Luba Ndlovu said the tournament, which was meant to be a two-day event, was cut short due to the cholera outbreak in the city.
“Everything went on well and the level of competition was high and we are grateful to everyone who made this tournament a success.
However, the tournament became a one-day event instead of two because of the outbreak of cholera. We had to put stringent measures to avoid its spread,” said Ndlovu. – @khumzallen
