Plumtree, Bulilima, Mangwe push for creation of Zifa district league

The main agenda of the indaba that will have the Premier Soccer League chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele as the guest speaker, is to have a Zifa district league in Mangwe, Bulilima and Plumtree town.
“The substance of the indaba is premised on the conviction and belief that there is abundant football talent in Plumtree town and its surrounding districts of Bulilima and Mangwe which sadly lacks some appropriate formal football platform to unlock it.
“Plumtree and the two Bulilima and Mangwe districts are located in Matabeleland South and hence according to our football boundaries and geography they are expected to play in the Zifa Matabeleland South province with most teams based in Gwanda and Beitbridge,” said the chief organiser of the indaba Faith Dube.
He said the scenario forced teams from the area to pass through Bulawayo to play their games in Gwanda, Beitbridge and other areas in the province or play as guests in the Zifa Bulawayo province league where they are forced to set up their home grounds away from home in Bulawayo.
Upon promotion to Division One, the teams would actually be playing in the Central Region against teams mainly from Gweru yet they will be based a mere 100km away from Bulawayo, a situation that badly affects their financial standing as most funds will be used on transport to the games.
“The major outcome of this indaba envisages the creation of a Zifa district league in Bulilima, Mangwe and Plumtree town all in the spirit of cultivating and promoting sustainable football development whose net effect would contribute towards the general development of football in Zimbabwe,” said Dube.
After the indaba they will be an official launch of the annual Kombani Lodge soccer tournament which was inaugurated last year.
The tournament proper, that will feature Highlanders and flamboyant Bulawayo social soccer side, Amavevane, will be played on the eve of the Christmas day.
