THE Plumtree District Soccer League (PDSL) executive committee has given its teams an ultimatum to have their members licensed by the end of this month or risk being booted out of the league. Matches resumed last weekend with 11 teams participating after Plumtree District Hospital Club which was failing to raise players quit the league.

Chairman of the league, Chakudza Mutarika said teams were still reluctant to register their players which called for stringent measures to be applied.

“Teams are still failing to comply with the rules and regulations of the league.

“They are still reluctant to license their players yet this is a procedural necessity.

“Most of these teams which form the league are coming from social teams and they do not understand the need to act in a professional manner.

“Some teams are still absconding meetings but we will do everything necessary to ensure they comply,” said Mutarika.

He said teams were expected to register players in time for the second round in August.

“The first round ends in July and at the beginning of August we are starting the second round. We have agreed to allow unregistered players to compete in this first round.

“When we enter the second round of matches each player has to be registered and licensed. Any team which will bring forward unregistered players will be booted out of the league,” said Mutarika.

He said the committee had lined up measures of improving the league’s performance during their trial run in preparation for their affiliation under the Zifa Matabeleland South Region League next year.

“We are in our trial run and our teams should have reached a high standard so that we make it into the provincial league.

“The committee has introduced standard cards which teams will use to enlist their players and handover to referees just before kick off.

“A team which fails to produce a proper card will pay a $5 fine,” said Mutarika.

The Plumtree District Soccer League matches were put on hold last month due to chaos caused by teams the had not registered players.
