THE appointment of youthful Plumtree-born Minister of Industry and Commerce, Cde Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu, has been hailed by the border town’s civic leaders who say it shows President Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s commitment to reviving industries especially in Bulawayo.
The leaders said Cde Ndlovu’s appointment coupled with that of his deputy, Cde Raji Modi, who hails from Bulawayo was a clear sign of Government’s intentions to revive and restore the city to its glory days of being the industrial hub of this country.
Cde Modi is a successful businessman man in Bulawayo while Cde Ndlovu is a highly qualified technocrat and son to Zanu-PF Central Committee member, Cde Richard Ndlovu.
Plumtree Town Council’s newly elected chairman, Cde Christopher Dube, yesterday said the appointment of Cde Ndlovu came at the right time as Plumtree Council was in the process of industrialising the town.
“This appointment of a Minister from our district makes me feel really honoured and we believe it will bring industry to our region in general and Plumtree in particular,” said Cde Dube.
Bulilima Rural District Council chief executive officer, Mr John Brown Ncube, said the appointment brings hope to people of Plumtree and the country as a whole.
“We are very upbeat about these appointments as Bulilima. We believe the appointments, while happening at national level, will naturally benefit us given their roles as our representatives in the legislature. We are proud of their elevation and wish them the best in their new roles. Matjena (congratulations)” said Mr Ncube.
Cde Ndlovu and Cde Modi face the daunting task of reviving Bulawayo industries and restoring the city’s status as the industrial hub of the country. — @richardmuponde
