PLUMTREE High School continues to shine as a beacon of academic and extracurricular excellence with outstanding results and achievements cementing its place as a force to reckon with in national development.
With a commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals, the school combines a robust educational curriculum with an emphasis on character development. Plumtree High School’s mission is premised on raising young men and women who respect their creator, exhibit good manners and embody honesty and integrity.
Comprehensive curriculum
Plumtree High School offers an extensive selection of courses designed to cater for various learner interests and aspirations. The school provides 27 subjects at the O-level and 26 at A-level, encompassing an impressive range of Sciences, Commercials, Arts, and Technical Vocational subjects. This diverse curriculum ensures that every student finds opportunities to excel academically.
Stellar A-level results
The school recently celebrated its outstanding 2024 A-level results, showcasing the hard work, discipline and dedication of its staffers and learners. Building on a remarkable pass rate of 98,04 percent in 2023, this year’s performance maintained high standards. Notable achievers included Nyasha Mhere, who scored an impressive 25 points in Sciences, Donavan T Mulambo with 24 points and several others who displayed remarkable results in various subjects, reaffirming Plumtree High School’s reputation as a stronghold of academic excellence.
Sporting achievements
Plumtree High School is not just about academics. The school also boasts a vibrant sporting culture. The athletics team made a significant mark in Beitbridge, with all 12 athletes bringing home medals. Additionally, six athletes represented Matabeleland South at national level, demonstrating their prowess on the field.
In netball, the Under-20 team’s outstanding performance at the National Championship further exemplified the school’s commitment to encouraging a competitive spirit. Additionally, the boys’ hockey team emerged champions in the B-League and earned a promotion to the A-League, while four under-17 boys were selected for the Matabeleland hockey team.
Cricket and rugby also saw Plumtree athletes shine with three girls selected for the Zimbabwe cricket junior team with Busisa Ncube selected to be part of Zimbabwe Rugby Under-14 team while Ntombikayise Sibanda was called to the National Rugby under-20 Women’s Team. The school saw several boys representing Matabeleland South in cricket and rugby competitions, including Dineo Sibanda who was selected for the Zimbabwe Women’s Rugby Team. It is not surprising therefore that Plumtree High School was CBZ 2024 National Championship’s most improved team.
Academic and extracurricular highlights
Beyond sports and academics, Plumtree High School has made a name for itself in various competitions and achievements. In chess, grandmaster Quinton Maphosa will compete in the national finals at Bradley High. The school also demonstrated its intellectual prowess by winning the Bulawayo Public Library STEM Quiz, earning smartphones and a floating shield courtesy of Econet.
The school participated in EMA’s Clean Schools Competition, finishing first in Matabeleland South Province and fourth nationally, showcasing their dedication not just to academic and athletic excellence but also to environmental stewardship.
Notable student achievements
The impressive track record of Plumtree High School students extends beyond traditional metrics. A remarkable highlight was Donavan T Mulambo’s notable achievement of becoming the world number one in innovation specialising in robotics after participating in the Science, Technology, and Innovation event in Sochi, Russia. Other notable achievements include Spencer Dube who received an athletics scholarship to the University of North Carolina, Menelisi Bhebhe who secured a soccer scholarship to Spain, Awakhiwe Ndlovu who earned a triple jump scholarship to the USA and Semukele Ngwenya who got a UZ athletics and basketball scholarship 2024.
