PLUMTREE finally stamped its name on the national cycling map after three brave riders stepped up and represented the border town in the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke 2025, held from November 6 to 8.
Allan “Mr G” Gama (53), Gilbert Habane (49), and Ezekiel Munyamani, joined more than 90 cyclists from across Zimbabwe in the demanding annual race. Riders came from major centres such as Harare, Gweru, Zvishavane, and Bulawayo to tackle the gruelling Great Dyke stretch.
Gama, who emerged as Plumtree’s iron man, said the experience was both tough and historic.
“We participated as three cyclists from Plumtree and I made it to the finish line,” he said. “I cycled 352 km from Selous to Zvishavane. I think we’re the first cyclists from Plumtree to take part in the tour. I wish there would be more cyclists from the town next time.”
Munyamani also completed his race segment while Habane put in a strong shift before bowing out after covering 269 km.
This year’s event marked the 8th edition of the Nedbank Great Dyke Cyclists Tour, and for the first time Plumtree riders joined the respected lineup, proving that passion for the sport runs deep even in the country’s farthest corners.
The trio returned home with sore muscles, big smiles, and a mission to inspire more Plumtree residents to jump on the saddle for future tours.
