WARRIORS fans can breathe easy. Rising midfield star Tawanda Chirewa has left the national team camp, but Zifa says the youngster is not ditching national duty or pulling a shock walkout.
The association moved swiftly yesterday to shut down swirling speculation after the Wolverhampton Wanderers player flew out to link up with his English Premier League club. In a detailed statement, Zifa said everything unfolding was part of a pre-planned arrangement agreed long before Chirewa checked in for Warriors duty.
Wolves reportedly asked for time to assess the gifted midfielder as their new technical team begins shaping next season’s squad. Zifa says they considered the request, weighed it against national interests and fully endorsed the temporary release.
According to the statement, the move was reached with the association’s full blessing and consent and reflects a professional and mutually respectful alignment between club and country.
Zifa stressed that fans must not read too much into the development. There is no conflict, no fallout and no sour faces behind the scenes. It is all about managing the player’s long-term growth while keeping Zimbabwe’s football goals firmly in sight.
“This development is not a withdrawal, nor does it reflect any dispute or disagreement. It prioritises the athlete’s long-term development while safeguarding Zimbabwe’s national football interests,” the association said.
Chirewa, who has been on the Warriors’ radar as one of the brightest young prospects abroad, is expected to continue balancing club and national commitments as both sides map out his career path.
