PLUMTREE Wanderers, the border town based side that plays in the Zifa Division Two league, have dismissed talk of a merger with Mainline FC.

Mainline FC are also a Plumtree based club and play in the Zifa Southern Region, a Division One league.

Both teams have sizeable followings in the border town of Plumtree.

“Plumtree Wanderers would like to put it on record that we are not entering into any form of partnership or merger with Mainline FC. Mainline FC are like our older brother in football who have their vision and targets, the same way we have ours.

“We are a newly founded club playing in Division Two and our journey so far has been worth the time and hard work that we have put into the project every day,” said club director Menzies Manka.

“Our target for this upcoming season is to win the Division Two championship title and get promotion into Division One,” he said.

In their debut season last year the team finished in seventh position.

The team has lost several players to rival clubs in Division Two as well as to Division One sides.

“A number of our players attracted the attention of some clubs and we gladly released the boys in order for them to grow their careers. We are in a rebuilding phase but that does not mean that we will be partnering Mainline FC or any other club,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Plumtree Wanderers chairman Wellington Mzila has parted ways with the club.

“Mr Mzila resigned in early January because he lives far away from our base in Zimnyama where he is an educator. He felt that the distance between his workplace and Plumtree town doesn’t give him enough time to concentrate on football matters.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Mr Mzila for his time at Plumtree Wanderers and for guiding the club in its debut season in 2024,”
