Obert Dube, a multi-award-winning praise poet, has announced that he will not be releasing any new poems or songs this year due to a lack of appreciation for the genre from fans.
While 2023 was a successful year for him, Dube has decided to focus on live performances to raise funds for his charity work. His charity project involves raising school fees for vulnerable children in the Matabeleland North province. Last year, he assisted 23 vulnerable children and one university student.
This year, he plans to concentrate on charity work, helping the elderly, paying fees for orphaned and vulnerable children, and providing sanitary pads to girls. Dube believes that empowering the girl child through the donation of sanitary pads is crucial for their protection and encouragement to attend school.
The artist has performed on the international stage, including in front of former Southern African President Jacob Zuma in Victoria Falls. And despite being a celebrated MC and having successful performances at weddings, corporate events, and functions, Dube feels underappreciated in his home country.
Reflecting on 2023, Dube highlighted his achievements, including being the first Zimbabwean or non-Tanzanian to perform at the Sauti Za Busara Festival. He also travelled to Kenya, Cameroon, and South Africa, winning awards along the way.
However, he has decided to forego recording this year, citing it as a waste of time and resources due to the limited audience for poetry recordings. Instead, he will stick to live performances and thematic poems for events and occasions. Dube boasts eight albums in his artistic career since entering the industry.
