Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday said they had since launched a manhunt for three other suspects who were still at large.
“We would like to confirm the arrest of two men found in possession of 12 explosive fuses measuring 20cm long each, four fractured dynamites, four pairs of catapults and two iron bars,” she said.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the explosives were recovered from a vehicle that had five men on board at around 5.30am.
“We are yet to establish the origins of the explosives and the motive behind moving around with the explosives,” she said.
“However, as police, we would like to strongly warn those bent on formenting violence with the intention of destabilising the country that they will face the full wrath of the law.
“We do not rule out the fact that the explosives could have been meant to further sinister political agendas. May those behind this be strongly warned that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them.”
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said they were appealing to anyone with information of the other three suspects to contact any nearest police station or the police headquarters on (04) 703631. Several MDC-T activists were arrested in recent weeks for fomenting violence within their party and for sometimes directing it at those in Zanu-PF. President Mugabe in his independence speech said the police should deal decisively with anyone involved in political violence regardless of political affiliation.
The President has also repeatedly appealed for peace and co-existence as the country gears itself to hold harmonised elections this year.
