He said 50 other conventional buses would be deployed on the Harare-Chitungwiza route as the company regains its urban routes.
Mr Chawasarira made the remarks during a meeting with Harare residents that was convened by Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo at Athlone Shopping Centre.
Residents expressed bitterness with the MDC-T council over poor service delivery in key areas of water, road maintenance, street lighting and grass cutting. Minister Chombo met residents on Tuesday to hear their grievances and to advise them on how to overcome the challenges.
He was accompanied by Harare town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi and members of the Harare Zanu-PF provincial executive. Minister Chombo had asked Mr Chawasarira to respond to public demands for cheaper transport. Kombis are now charging US$1 for the majority of urban routes. Mr Chawasarira said Zupco would charge US$0.50.
