A RECKLESS kombi driver, who was driving his vehicle along a pavement in the Harare Central Business District and then tried to evade a penalty which had been set up to try and arrest him, has now been arrested.

Nikisi Kudzanai Peter, 29, the driver of a Toyota Hiace (AGL 1316), was recently captured on video driving on the pavement along Julius Nyerere Way.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Nikisi tried to evade arrest at a police roadblock along Seke Road.

“On January 18, 2025, police in Harare set up a roadblock along Seke Road, after receiving a tip-off that the kombi was leaving Harare Central Business District en-route to Chitungwiza.

“As the driver approached the roadblock site, he attempted to flee by reversing the kombi but was blocked by oncoming vehicles.

“He later switched off the vehicle and fled.

“The vehicle was subsequently impounded.”

Comm Nyathi added:

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police operation, ‘No to Mushikashika,’ is still ongoing.

“On Wednesday, 538 arrests were made throughout the country bringing cumulative arrests to 8 233.

“So far, 204 touts have been arrested while 67 unregistered or plateless vehicles have been impounded.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns motorists against flouting road rules and regulations and in the process endanger the lives of the public.

“The public should feel free to report instances of reckless driving or non- compliance with road rules and regulations,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
