Police dismiss Bonda Mission accident hoax

Crime Reporter
Police have dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that more than 59 students from Bonda Mission died in a traffic accident yesterday along the Harare-Mutare Road.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi yesterday said they did not record such a road traffic accident in the said area.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to advise the nation that the Whatsapp message, which is circulating and claiming that 59 to 70 Bonda Mission students have perished in a fatal road traffic accident between Macheke and Headlands along Harare-Mutare Road is false.

“It is irresponsible for anyone to be keen to have fatal road accidents on our roads and circulate alarming false videos.

“For the record, there is no such fatal road traffic accident,” he said.

Chief Supt Nyathi said the law would take its course on anyone who would be found to be causing alarm and despondency through circulating unfounded and false messages. Police have been on record urging people to ignore or verify some of the messages circulating on the social media.
