Police in Bulawayo are actively searching for Mthokozisi Manzini, a former assistant manager at the Bulawayo Athletic Club restaurant, following allegations that he convened illegal political meetings at the establishment.
Manzini, who has a notable background, rising from a humble waiter to a respected assistant manager, is accused of using the restaurant to host friends affiliated with the opposition party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
Sources close to the situation have revealed that Manzini frequently welcomed a group of CCC members who would visit the restaurant for social gatherings and political discussions.
The Bulawayo Athletic Club, which also features a pub, has reportedly become a hub for CCC activities, raising concerns among local authorities. The police have expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation, emphasizing that the establishment is not a venue for political gatherings outside the law.
In a statement, the police confirmed they are looking for Manzini to question him regarding the organization of these illegal political meetings. “We are conducting an investigation into the matter and urge Mr Manzini to come forward. It is crucial for us to address any unlawful activities that disrupt the peace and order of our community,” the statement read.
As the search for Manzini continues, the Bulawayo Athletic Club faces scrutiny regarding its role in facilitating these alleged gatherings. Authorities are determined to uphold the law and ensure that all political activities occur within the legal framework.
Bulawayo Athletic Club management has declined to comment on the matter, citing ongoing investigations. The CCC has also distanced itself from the allegations, stating that it does not condone any illegal activities.
