POLICE in Kwekwe District, Midlands Province have launched a manhunt for five people who are part of a six-member gang wanted for killing a man who refused to buy them beer.
Police arrested one of the gang members for the killing which occurred at Hozi Business Centre in Silobela in April this year.
The six men reportedly fatally attacked Makhosezwe Fuzane with machetes, sticks, knives, and axes.
While Ryan Nangombe was arrested, police are now looking for Regis Mathema, Nqobizitha Mathema, Evidence Mpofu, Pumulani aka Marabha and one only known as Leonard in connection with the heinous act.
The gang reportedly fled from the scene after committing the crime leading the police to launch a manhunt for the remaining five suspects.
According to Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, on 12 April 2024 around 4PM, the now deceased was drinking beer at Hozi Business Centre when he was approached by the suspects who requested him to buy them beer.
“Fuzane refused and a misunderstanding arose and they were refrained from fighting by other patrons.
“On the same day at around 7PM, the suspects approached Fuzane while they were armed with sticks, machetes, knives and an axe. He sensed danger and ran away,” said Inspector Mahoko.
The gang reportedly gave chase and caught up with him and indiscriminately attacked him with the weapons.
He later died from the wounds.
The matter was reported to ZRP Silobela leading to the arrest of Nangombe while others managed to escape.
“We are appealing for the public’s usual support in the form of tip-offs or any information which might lead to the arrest of these wanted suspects. Those with information may approach any nearest police station,” Inspector Mahoko said.
