Police release the names of three people who perished in the tragic Mvurwi accident

Police have released the names of the three people who were killed while six others were injured when a Toyota Dyna collided with a Mazda Demio on Saturday night in Mvurwi.

The accident occurred at the 38km peg along the Mvurwi-Centenary Road near Maori turn off at around 8:15 pm.

The Toyota Dyna vehicle was carrying seven passengers while the Mazda Demio vehicle had six passengers.

The bodies of the victims were taken to Mvurwi Hospital mortuary for postmortem while the injured were admitted at Concession Hospital.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s X handle post on 21 September 2025 regarding a fatal road traffic accident, involving a Mazda Demio vehicle and a Toyota Dyna truck, which occurred at the 38-kilometre peg along Mvurwi-Centenary Road, near Maori Turn Off, Mvurwi, on September 20, 2025. The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of the three victims who died in the crash.”

They are Mr Elton Nhundu (28) of Glen View, Harare; Ms Vongai Mujati (23) from Budiriro, Harare and Mr Tinotenda Louis Magarangoma (27).

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims in connection with this tragic accident. We appeal to drivers to exercise caution on the roads,” Comm Nyathi said.
