A COP in Bulawayo was caught on the wrong side of the law after he allegedly stole $85 from a suspect, claiming he was helping him get bail.

Singamakhosi Moyo of Mzilikazi suburb was lucky to escape without prosecution after Noah Nyamana, who is facing a charge of possession of articles for criminal use, withdrew the matter before the area public prosecutor yesterday.

Nyamana is alleged to be in the business of producing fake notes.

He is also facing theft charges.

Sources close to the investigation said Nyamana was arrested last Saturday and detained for possession of articles for criminal use. “Moyo who was on duty in the charge office took advantage of Nyamana who was in the cells and offered to help. The two struck a deal and agreed that Moyo would source $300 from Nyamana’s wife.”

Moyo received $300 that was sent through his Econet Line and he confirmed that he had seen the transaction.

“Moyo took the money, handed over $215 to Nyamana and pocketed the remainder. Nyamana made a report, leading to Moyo’s arrest.”
