TWO police officers who demanded US$50 bribe from a woman whose car they had impounded have appeared in court.
Jerifanos Imbayago (42) and Samson Mashingaidze Munetsi (48) both of 80 Gurudzi Street in New Mabvuku were charged with abuse of duty as public officers.

The two, who were based at Ruwa police station, were on Tuesday not formally charged when they appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma who remanded them to September 9 on US$50 bail apiece.

Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleges that Sharai Gwendu pleaded with the pair to release her car which had been impounded as an exhibit at Ruwa police station in a case of kidnapping being investigated by Munetsi.

They solicited for US$50 from Gwendu for them to release the Toyota Nadia with registration number ACK 1973, the court heard.
Mr Chakurira told the court that the pair told Gwendu to deposit the money through Ecocash which they withdrew.

The court heard, Imbayago gave back US$5 to Gwendu after he obtained US$25 as his share from Ecocash.
