Political activist Syberth Musengezi in court for assaulting airtime vendor

Political activist Syberth Musengezi has appeared in court for allegedly assaulting an airtime vendor who had tresspassed into his press conference.

Musengezi was granted $100 bail by Harare magistrate, Ms Ruth Moyo.

It is the State’s case that on April 8 this year, Norest Taruberekera, an airtime vendor, was conducting his business at the intersection of First Street and Jason Moyo Avenue in Harare.

lt is alleged Taruberekera and a fellow airtime vendor had a heated argument after the later took his airtime scratch cards.

William Mukono ran way with the complainant giving chase.

Mukono entered into Bothwell House where Musengezi was holding a press conference and the complainant followed.

Musengezi then demanded to know what the complainant and his colleague were doing in the conference room and before the complainant could answer, Musengezi punched him once on the face with a fist.

At that time, the police entered the room and the complainant reported the assault, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
