ALL 25 polling stations in the Tsholotsho Rural District Council (RDC) by-elections have closed at 7pm on Saturday, marking the end of the voting process in the local authority polls.

Election officials confirmed that voting proceeded peacefully across the affected wards, with no major incidents reported throughout the day.

A visit to several polling stations around 4pm showed only a few people arriving to cast their ballots.

Most polling stations in all the contested wards recorded a slow flow of voters during the afternoon, with election officers largely attending to isolated voters who trickled in before the close of polling.

Some presiding officers said activity had been relatively subdued for much of the day, although voting continued steadily at various centres.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is expected to announce the results after the completion of counting and verification processes.

Security personnel remained deployed at polling stations, while election officers immediately began sorting and counting ballots in accordance with electoral procedures.

The by-elections were held to fill vacant seats in Tsholotsho RDC, with candidates from different political parties and independent contestants vying for positions in the affected wards.

Stakeholders are now awaiting the official results from ZEC.
