A 46-YEAR-OLD man from Beitbridge has been dragged to court for allegedly stabbing his second wife to death with a knife over infidelity allegations.
Forget Mleya pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder before High Court Judge Justice Ngoni Nduna. He was remanded out of custody until Friday for continuation of the trial.
During the trial, Dorcas Sipali (58), the deceased’s neighbour, indicated that she heard the victim calling for help.
“On the day of the incident, I heard Tracy Sibanda, the deceased, calling me in Ndebele stating that she was dying. I ran to the scene and found her leaning against a shrub, she was weak and she told me that she was feeling dizzy.
“I enquired what had happened but she could not explain as she was in intense pain. I grabbed her waist and assisted her in walking into my homestead.
“I prepared a place for her to lie down and I observed that she was bleeding from the back and had two stab wounds. After a couple of minutes, I heard the accused calling me, I did not respond,” she said.
Sipali indicated that the accused requested to talk to her in private.
“I later responded to the accused and ordered him to leave any dangerous weapons outside my homestead and he came in.
“He requested to have a private chat with me and that is when he told me that the misunderstanding that he had with his wife was because of her unfaithfulness. He told me that he stabbed the victim because of that,” she said.
Allegations against Mleya are that on 25 May 2020 at around 7pm, he arrived at the deceased’s homestead and found her about to retire to bed.
A misunderstanding arose between the two and Mleya stabbed the victim twice in the back with a knife. The deceased was ferried to Gungwe Clinic and was later referred to Manama Mission Hospital for further treatment, she died while receiving treatment.
Mleya handed himself over to the police and was formally arrested and charged with murder after the demise of his wife.
