A domestic dispute involving two women in a polygamous marriage has spilled into the courts.
Gracious Matisi has dragged her co-wife, Brenda Matondo to court accusing her of verbal and emotional abuse.
The two appeared before Harare magistrate Meenal Narotam who granted a peace order against Matondo.
Matisi told the court that she was being threatened and victimized for receiving more attention from their husband.
“Matondo has been sending me text messages threatening to kill my child for having more time with our husband.
“I also insulted her in return and this led to a physical altercation. She attacked me, tearing my clothes and that of my child,” said Matisi.
Matisi said Matondo was jealous of her enjoying their husband’s affection more than her.
“I am the first wife but our husband had been spending more time with Matisi, taking her out and buying her gifts all the time.
“I was heartbroken to an extent that I threatened to kill her children because I feel like my husband no longer has interest in me because of her,” said Matondo.
During the hearing, magistrate Narotam called the duo’s husband to testify to which he said he was also having problems in-between his wives.
“I love them both, and I never imagined that it would come to this stage,” he said.
Magistrate Naratom ordered Matondo to stop issuing threats of violence to Matisi or his children urging them to maintain peace.
