Pools rout Red Devils

Epworth Pools and Red Devils dominate the 20-team Epworth Area Zone Soccer League.
The Red Seal Trophy is sponsored by Natfoods and is now in its second year.
Last year’s inaugural winners, Chiremba, were knocked out in the quarter-finals.
While the match began at a cracking pace, two quick goals by Pools were enough to subdue the stubborn Red Devils.

Even a half-time pep talk by the coach failed to change the team’s fortunes and the day belonged to sizzling Pools.
National Foods marketing director, Anthony Kinnaird, commended both teams for the high standard of play. He noted that Natfoods was committed to the development of underprivileged communities and would continue supporting Epworth through sports sponsorship.

It was a carnival atmosphere at Epworth as the Natfoods Road Show took the normally sleepy community by storm.
With music blaring, the company also introduced the new 2kg Pearlenta maize meal which was donated to players and other members of the community.

National Foods sales manager, Bright Manyerere, who was instrumental in organising the tournament, promised that next year’s competition would be bigger and better.
“It is our hope that through this tournament, we will help discover the next Peter Ndlovu or Moses Chunga from Epworth. There is so much talent here that is waiting to be unlocked,” he said.

Ezekiel Chinyani, the Epworth Area Zone Soccer League organising secretary, commended Natfoods for ploughing some of its profits back into the communities in which it operates.

“When it comes to corporate social responsibility, Natfoods leads the way. We hope other companies will also see the need to be involved in sports development.”
The people of Epworth also hope that the soccer tournament will contribute to the curbing of anti-social behaviour in the community.
