LEADER of the Unshakable Church of God Professor Reverend Haney Resten Sawasawa has died.
In a statement, the family said he passed on this Tuesday morning.
“With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Professor Reverend Haney Resten Sawasawa, the founder of Unshakable Pentecostal Church. Professor Reverend Sawasawa passed away in the early hours of this morning (22 October 2024). The Sawasawa family will communicate further details regarding funeral proceedings in due course,” they said.
He was conferred with an honorary degree in Rheology by the EL Shaddai Theological Seminary earlier in the month at a ceremony attended by Vice President Chiwenga who was accompanied by his wife Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga who grew up as a congregant of the Unshakeable Pentecostal Church.
During the conferment, VP Chiwenga said when the Church and the Government work harmoniously they can combine efforts to address social issues effectively. The fight against drug and substance abuse, particularly amongst youths, is a case in point where the church, as a moral authority and community-centred institution possess a unique ability to mobilise and engage individuals past grassroots level to address the drug abuse challenge that the country faces, he told delegates.
He said the Church and the rest of the citizenry must nurture the youth and raise them to become morally upright and disciplined citizens as the Government cannot carry the burden alone.
