Florence Mutero (23) is a full time farmer who operates from Mapanzure area in Masvingo Province. He graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture at Shamva Agricultural College in Mashonaland Central Province. The young farmer registered the idea of starting his own business after he graduated and could not secure employment.
He then decided to use the knowledge he acquired from college to earn a living.
“I did my Diploma in Agriculture at Shamva Agricultural College and decided to put what I had learnt into practice,” said Mutero.
Mutero said while at college, he mingled and interacted with people who were into the farming business and this is where he got his business ideas.
“While I was at college I managed to interact with different people who were into the farming business and this is where I got different business ideas,” said the young farmer.
He specialises in poultry farming and horticulture. He rears two types of birds; layers and broilers and produces about 100 chickens and about 50 crates of eggs every week.
Mutero also produces different types of vegetables which he sells to local markets.
Mutero has a strong customer base in Masvingo where he supplies chickens and vegetables to both small and large-scale traders.
He urged Zimbabweans to embrace the use of plastic money to beat the current cash shortages.
“Plastic money is not a barrier to my business. I have learnt to accept it and my business is booming as compared to my other competitors who refuse plastic money. I can buy my inputs using plastic money so why should I refuse it from my clients. It also can keep my business going and flowing,” said Mutero.
He is happy with his farming business.
Mutero says he wants to take advantage of opportunities made available by the Government.
The young farmer is looking forward to increasing his projects and also do cattle ranching under Command Agriculture.
He dreams of owing a farm one day.
