“They are not born criminals but only that crime increases when we have a population living in desperate conditions. To achieve this, it calls for concerted efforts from all stakeholders who include Government, society, prisons, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), churches and civic organisations,” he said.
He said crime was a social issue, which affected communities economically and politically hence, should be condemned at all costs.
“Crime disturbs peace, societal norms and values,” he said.
Apart from causing unrest to society, crime also costs the nation a fortune. Commissioner Zimondi said effective re-socialisation and re-integration of inmates could reduce crime prevalence in the county. He said business, the community and the police should work on initiatives to reduce crime propensity. — New Ziana.
